The main objectives of this project are to enhance public awareness of the importance of natural environment and biodiversity and, on the other hand, to carry out practices that will contribute to the restoration of the quarry fronts and will help the development of certain native species’ communities that could have been affected by the work carried out in the mining operations.
The activities would be held in the area where the Rezola Cement Factory quarry is located, near the municipalities of Arrigorriaga and Bilbao (Bizkaia), in the surroundings of Mount Pagasarri. The whole project is included within a framework of environmental education, with the purpose of bringing people closer to the environment and, at the same time, making them participants in the conservation plans that are going to be implemented. The aim is to give value to the biodiversity present in the quarries and a better understanding of the interaction between nature and human activities in the environment.
