Descripción:

The quarry has been extracting limestone from the hillside since the 1970s. It is used for the production and sale of natural aggregates intended for the hydraulic concrete market and public works in the area of the Thau lagoon (Hérault department).

The quarry is situated in the last terrain to the west of the Causse d'Aumelas, part of the garrigues of Montpellier. It looks out onto the Thau lagoon and the Mediterranean.

It supplies around 60% of aggregates in the Thau region in the proximity of Sète.

Descripción del habitat, flora & fauna:

The quarry is located in scrubland, typical of the Mediterranean region. It borders the Natura 2000 site "Le Causse d'Aumelas and La Montagne de la Mourre" and is at the intersection of three ZPSs (SPA – special protection area), testament to the wealth of heritage birds in the region.

Ongoing nature projets:

The objective of the natural redevelopment of the quarry is to encourage the recolonisation of the area by rupicolous birds (Eurasian eagle-owl, Montagu's harrier, rock sparrow), reptiles with the installation of lizard lodges for the common wall lizard and the ocellated lizard as well as amphibians with the creation of temporary wetlands at the tip of the site, in particular for the natterjack toad.
